स दीक्षापय गोविन्द त्वम् आत्मानं महाभुज ॥
त्वयीष्टवति दाशार्ह विपाप्मा भविता ह्य् अहम् ॥
मां वाप्य् अभ्यनुजानीहि सहैभिर् अनुजैर् विभो ॥
अनुज्ञातस् त्वया कृष्ण प्राप्नुयां क्रतुम् उत्तमम् ॥

tvayīṣṭavati dāśārha vipāpmā bhavitā hy aham ||

विपाप्मा भविता ह्य् अहम्vipāpmā bhavitā hy ahamI shall become sinless;
मां वा अपि अभ्यनुजानीहिmāṃ vā api abhyanujānīhior else permit me
सह एभिर् अनुजैर् विभोsaha ebhir anujair vibhotogether with these younger [brothers], O lord;

अनुवाद
"So consecrate yourself for the sacrifice, Govinda, O mighty-armed one, for when you perform it, O Dasharha, I shall become sinless. Or else permit me to perform it with these younger brothers, O lord; permitted by you, O Krishna, I shall obtain the highest sacrifice."

Yudhishthira would rather that Krishna Himself perform the sacrifice — "when you perform it, I shall become sinless": the devotee sees consecration not in his own deed but in the action of the Lord. And even in performing the sacrifice himself, he asks for "permission": without the Lord's consent, even the greatest rite cannot be accomplished. This humility is telling — to yield the foremost place to Krishna and keep for himself only the role of petitioner. The verse teaches that the fruit of any sacred labor depends not on the doer's diligence but on the blessing of the Supreme; and the most perfect piety is to wish that the Lord Himself perform the deed, content to hold the place of a servant at His side.
