"Send out swift envoys at once for the invitations." Having heard the king's word, he dispatched envoys [with the charge]: "Invite, in the various kingdoms, brahmins and kings, vaishyas and honored shudras — bring them all." By the Pandava's command, they invited all the lords of the earth and sent out further envoys.

All are called to the sacrifice — "brahmins and kings, vaishyas and honored shudras": no estate is left outside. It is telling that the king's greatest rite is not the possession of the nobility alone, but a festival of the whole people. The verse teaches that the good for whose sake the sacrifice is performed extends to all; and true piety raises no barriers between ranks before the face of the sacred. Under the shelter of the royal sacrifice, the high and the low come together — for the Lord's grace, toward which the rite is directed, does not regard classes, and communion with it is open to everyone who is called.
