तत्र पार्थस्य भुजयोर् महद् बलम् अदृश्यत ॥
यत् क्रुद्धो बहुलाः सेनाः सर्वतः समवारयत् ॥

इषुभिर् बहुभिस् तूर्णं सर्वान् एव समावृणोत् ॥
तत्रान्तरिक्षे बाणानां प्रगाढानां विशां पते ॥
संघर्षेण महार्चिष्मान् पावकः समजायत ॥
tatra pārthasya bhujayor mahad balam adṛśyata ||
yat kruddho bahulāḥ senāḥ sarvataḥ samavārayat ||
astrair astrāṇi saṃvārya dviṣatāṃ sarvato vibhuḥ ||
iṣubhir bahubhis tūrṇaṃ sarvān eva samāvṛṇot ||
tatrāntarikṣe bāṇānāṃ pragāḍhānāṃ viśāṃ pate ||
saṃgharṣeṇa mahārciṣmān pāvakaḥ samajāyata ||
There in Partha's arms a great strength was seen -- in that, enraged, he held back the many armies from every side. Warding off weapon with weapon, the mighty one covered all his enemies from every side, swiftly, with many arrows. There, in the sky, from the arrows flying thick, O lord of the people, a great blazing fire arose from their friction.

Arjuna's might -- "bhujayoḥ mahat balam", the great strength of his arms -- holds back all the armies at once, though he stands on foot. So many are the arrows that "saṃgharṣeṇa pāvakaḥ samajāyata" -- from their friction fire blazes up in the sky. It is telling how the hyperbole conveys greatness: arrows give birth to flame. The verse teaches that strength shadowed by the Lord overcomes any number: alone, on foot, one man stands against multitudes; and the image of fire born from the friction of arrows shows the measure of might before which many enemies become mere fuel for the flame of righteous resistance.
