देवनागरी
तत्र तत्र महेष्वासैः श्वसद्भिः शोणितोक्षितैः ॥
हयैर् नागैश् च संभिन्नैर् नदद्भिश् चारिकर्शनैः ॥
संरब्धैश् चारिभिर् वीरैः प्रार्थयद्भिर् जयं मृधे ॥
एकस्थैर् बहुभिः क्रुद्धैर् ऊष्मेव समजायत ॥

अनुवाद
Here and there, from mighty archers gasping and drenched in blood, from horses and elephants cut down and roaring, tormenting the foe; and from enraged enemy heroes seeking victory in the fight, many gathered together in one place, enraged -- a heat arose over the field.

From the gathered mass of enraged, wounded, gasping fighters a "ūṣmā" -- a heat -- rises, like the exhalation of battle. The poet conveys the very air of the carnage -- hot, bloody, roaring. It is telling that the battle is described not only visually but through this heat. The verse teaches that war poisons the very air: from a mass of fury and blood a stifling heat rises; and whoever feels this heat will understand that carnage is no glorious spectacle but a suffocating haze in which all that lives is choked.
