स तान् अतीत्य वेगेन द्रोणानीकम् उपाद्रवत् ॥
अग्रतश् च गजानीकं शरवर्षैर् अवाकिरत् ॥
सो ऽचिरेणैव कालेन तद् गजानीकम् आशुगैः ॥
दिशः सर्वाः समभ्यस्य व्यधमत् पवनात्मजः ॥
त्रासिताः शरभस्येव गर्जितेन वने मृगाः ॥
प्राद्रवन् द्विरदाः सर्वे नदन्तो भैरवान् रवान् ॥
पुनश् चातीत्य वेगेन द्रोणानीकम् उपाद्रवत् ॥
तम् अवारयद् आचार्यो वेलेवोद्वृत्तम् अर्णवम् ॥
sa tān atītya vegena droṇānīkam upādravat ||
agrataś ca gajānīkaṃ śaravarṣair avākirat ||
so 'cireṇaiva kālena tad gajānīkam āśugaiḥ ||
diśaḥ sarvāḥ samabhyasya vyadhamat pavanātmajaḥ ||
trāsitāḥ śarabhasyeva garjitena vane mṛgāḥ ||
prādravan dviradāḥ sarve nadanto bhairavān ravān ||
punaś cātītya vegena droṇānīkam upādravat ||
tam avārayad ācāryo velevodvṛttam arṇavam ||
He, having swiftly passed them, rushed upon Drona's array, and in front, showered the elephant corps with rains of arrows. He, in a short time, having scattered that elephant corps in all directions with swift [arrows], dispersed it, the son of Wind. Terrified, as beasts in the forest by a sharabha's roar, all the elephants fled, bellowing fearsome roars.

Bhima "dispersed" the elephant corps as wind scatters clouds -- for he is the son of Wind; the elephants flee "as [by] a sharabha's roar." It is telling that his fearsomeness puts even giants to flight. The verse teaches that before true strength, even the mightiest flee: where fearsomeness graced by righteousness appears, even the colossal draw back in terror, as beasts before the roar of the king of beasts.
