अथ कस्मादुच्यते नमामीति । यस्माद्यं सर्वे देवा नमन्ति मुमुक्षवो ब्रह्मवादिनश्च । प्र नूनं ब्रह्मणस्पतिर्मन्त्रं वदत्युक्थ्यं यस्मिन्निन्द्रो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा देवा ओकांसि चक्रिरे तस्मादुच्यते नमामीति

atha kasmāducyate namāmīti | yasmādyaṃ sarve devā namanti mumukṣavo brahmavādinaśca | pra nūnaṃ brahmaṇaspatirmantraṃ vadatyukthyaṃ yasminnindro varuṇo mitro aryamā devā okāṃsi cakrire tasmāducyate namāmīti

शब्दशः अर्थ

अथ कस्मात् उच्यते नमामि इतिatha kasmāt ucyate namāmi itiwhy then is “namāmi” said; wherefore is “I bow” spoken
यस्मात् यम् सर्वे देवाः नमन्तिyasmāt yam sarve devāḥ namantibecause to him bow all the gods; since him all the gods worship
मुमुक्षवः ब्रह्मवादिनः चmumukṣavaḥ brahmavādinaḥ caand the seekers of freedom, and the discoursers on Brahman; both those seeking mokṣa and the knowers of Brahman
प्र नूनम् ब्रह्मणस्पतिःpra nūnam brahmaṇaspatiḥlo, now Brahmaṇaspati; now Brahmaṇaspati
मन्त्रम् वदति उक्थ्यम्mantram vadati ukthyamutters the mantra worthy of praise; pronounces the laud-worthy incantation
यस्मिन् इन्द्रः वरुणः मित्रः अर्यमाyasmin indraḥ varuṇaḥ mitraḥ aryamāin which Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman; wherein Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra and Aryaman
देवाः ओकांसि चक्रिरेdevāḥ okāṃsi cakrirethe gods made themselves dwellings; the gods set up their abodes
तस्मात् उच्यते नमामि इतिtasmāt ucyate namāmi ititherefore “namāmi” is said; hence “I bow” is spoken
अनुवाद

“And why is ‘namāmi’ said?” — “Because to him bow all the gods, and the seekers of freedom, and the discoursers on Brahman. ‘Lo, now Brahmaṇaspati utters the mantra worthy of praise — that in which Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra and Aryaman, the gods, made themselves dwellings.’ Therefore ‘namāmi’ is said.”
