A link before the verse.
Three khaṇḍas in a row — the fifth, sixth and seventh — end alike: a prose instruction, then “here is this verse”, then a couplet about horns.
This structure deserves notice. Prose explains; verse seals.
So one taught in antiquity: an argument can be passed on in one's own words, but a verse is memorised word for word. Hence the knots are set in metre.
Note that all three verses of this part speak of one thing — the joining of the horns — and all three are dark.
I will read them as I read everything dark in this collection: making out what can be made out, and marking where the making-out ends and guessing begins.
