The eleventh name is the Oṁkāra, and with it begins a new class: the syllable and its measures.
The whole fourth Upaniṣad has been moving to this. Its third paragraph cited the first verse of the Māṇḍūkya — “Oṁ, this syllable is all this” — and after it the four feet of the Ātman.
Now the syllable is named His name.
Note that the order in the litany is the reverse of that in which the examination went. There one was led from the syllable to the four feet and to the fourth; here the Oṁkāra stands after the gods and goddesses, and its measures after it.
A litany does not build a ladder of dignities at all: it goes through the list.
And the next paragraph will name what is usually absent from such lists — the four half-measures.
