इदम् इन्द्रेण ते साक्षाद् उपदिष्टं महात्मना ॥
अस्त्रं रुद्रेण वा पार्थ द्रोणेनाथ कृपेण वा ॥
ननु नाम स्वधर्मज्ञस् त्वं लोके ऽभ्यधिकः परैः ॥
अयुध्यमानस्य कथं रणे प्रहृतवान् असि ॥
न प्रमत्ताय भीताय विरथाय प्रयाचते ॥
व्यसने वर्तमानाय प्रहरन्ति मनस्विनः ॥

译文

"This weapon was taught to you in person by the great-souled Indra, O Partha, or by Rudra, or by Drona, or by Kripa. Indeed, you are said to be a knower of your own dharma, surpassing others in the world; how then did you strike in battle one who was not fighting you? The wise do not strike the careless, the frightened, the chariotless, the pleading, or one who is in misfortune."
