नाभ्यनन्दन्त तत्सैन्याः सात्यकिं तेन कर्मणा ॥
अर्जुनेन हतं पूर्वं यज् जघान कुरूद्वहम् ॥
सहस्राक्षसमं तत्र सिद्धचारणमानवाः ॥
भूरिश्रवसम् आलोक्य युद्धे प्रायगतं हतम् ॥
अपूजयन्त तं देवा विस्मितास् तस्य कर्मभिः ॥
पक्षवादांश् च बहुशः प्रावदंस् तस्य सैनिकाः ॥
nābhyanandanta tatsainyāḥ sātyakiṃ tena karmaṇā ||
arjunena hataṃ pūrvaṃ yaj jaghāna kurūdvaham ||
sahasrākṣasamaṃ tatra siddhacāraṇamānavāḥ ||
bhūriśravasam ālokya yuddhe prāyagataṃ hatam ||
apūjayanta taṃ devā vismitās tasya karmabhiḥ ||
pakṣavādāṃś ca bahuśaḥ prāvadaṃs tasya sainikāḥ ||
Those armies did not approve of Satyaki for that deed — that he killed the upholder of the Kuru line, who had already been struck down by Arjuna. Having beheld Bhurishravas, equal there to the thousand-eyed Indra, slain in battle, gone into praya — the siddhas, the charanas, and men... the gods honored him, astonished by his deeds; and his soldiers carried on partisan talk in abundance.

No one approves of Satyaki, yet the gods honor the slain man: the judgment of the higher powers and the judgment of conscience agree, whatever the outcome of the fight. It is telling that the honors go not to the victor but to the one who fell in prayer: the crown belongs not to him who struck off the head, but to him who met death in yoga. The verse teaches that the outcome of a clash is no measure of what is right; and one who falls turned toward the Highest rises in glory, while one who prevails wrongfully remains under the common condemnation.
