सर्वैर् देवैः स्तुतो देवः सैकधा बहुधा च सः ॥
शतधा सहस्रधा चैव तथा शतसहस्रधा ॥
ईदृशः स महादेवो भूयश् च भगवान् अजः ॥
न हि सर्वे मया शक्या वक्तुं भगवतो गुणाः ॥
सर्वैर् ग्रहैर् गृहीतान् वै सर्वपापसमन्वितान् ॥
स मोचयति सुप्रीतः शरण्यः शरणागतान् ॥
sarvair devaiḥ stuto devaḥ saikadhā bahudhā ca saḥ ||
śatadhā sahasradhā caiva tathā śatasahasradhā ||
īdṛśaḥ sa mahādevo bhūyaś ca bhagavān ajaḥ ||
na hi sarve mayā śakyā vaktuṃ bhagavato guṇāḥ ||
sarvair grahair gṛhītān vai sarvapāpasamanvitān ||
sa mocayati suprītaḥ śaraṇyaḥ śaraṇāgatān ||
"Praised by all the gods, the god is one and manifold -- a hundredfold, a thousandfold, and a hundred-thousandfold. Such is that Mahadeva, and more than that, the unborn Bhagavan; for not even I can tell all the virtues of Bhagavan. Those seized by all the planets, those bound by every sin -- these he releases, greatly pleased, the granter of refuge, to those who have taken refuge in him."

The Supreme is 'one and manifold,' whose virtues even Vyasa cannot number; and he releases those who take refuge in him from sins and evil influences. It is significant that unfathomable majesty is joined here with accessible mercy: the boundless one bends toward the one who seeks shelter. The verse teaches that God is infinite in virtues, yet near to the refuge of his devotee; and one who, burdened by sin and fate, takes refuge in him attains deliverance -- for his mercy exceeds every fault.
