आर्यवृत्तश् च पाञ्चाल्यो न स राजा धनप्रियः ॥
न संत्यक्ष्यति कौन्तेयान् राज्यदानैर् अपि ध्रुवम् ॥
तथास्य पुत्रो गुणवान् अनुरक्तश् च पाण्डवान् ॥
तस्मान् नोपायसाध्यांस् तान् अहं मन्ये कथं चन ॥

āryavṛttaś ca pāñcālyo na sa rājā dhanapriyaḥ ||
na saṃtyakṣyati kaunteyān rājyadānair api dhruvam ||
tathāsya putro guṇavān anuraktaś ca pāṇḍavān ||
tasmān nopāyasādhyāṃs tān ahaṃ manye kathaṃ cana ||

Translation

Here even an enemy gives Drupada his due nobility. It is telling that Karna acknowledges the king's incorruptibility and his son's devotion: virtue is so evident that even an adversary cannot deny it. Here is a lesson: the righteous are surrounded by righteous allies, and bribery is powerless before nobility. Thus the scripture reveals the strength of an alliance built on virtue; and the Pandavas' camp lies beyond the reach of corruption.
