सृष्ट्वा लोकांस् त्रीन् इमान् हव्यवाह; प्राप्ते काले पचसि पुनः समिद्धः ॥
सर्वस्यास्य भुवनस्य प्रसूतिस्; त्वम् एवाग्ने भवसि पुनः प्रतिष्ठा ॥
त्वम् अन्नं प्राणिनां भुक्तम् अन्तर्भूतो जगत्पते ॥
नित्यं प्रवृद्धः पचसि त्वयि सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥
sṛṣṭvā lokāṃs trīn imān havyavāha; prāpte kāle pacasi punaḥ samiddhaḥ ||
sarvasyāsya bhuvanasya prasūtis; tvam evāgne bhavasi punaḥ pratiṣṭhā ||
tvam annaṃ prāṇināṃ bhuktam antarbhūto jagatpate ||
nityaṃ pravṛddhaḥ pacasi tvayi sarvaṃ pratiṣṭhitam ||
"Having created these three worlds, O bearer of oblations, at the appointed hour you again burn them, blazing up; you are the source of this whole world, and you, Agni, are again its foundation; you are the food of living beings, eaten, having entered into them, O lord of the world; ever growing, you cook -- in you all is established."

Here Agni appears as creator, devourer, and support of the worlds all at once. It is significant that he creates, burns in his own time, and again establishes: in him is the whole cycle of existence. It is significant too that he is the fire of digestion within living beings. Thus is revealed the reflection of the Lord, who is the source, the end, and the support of all, acting alike in the small and the great. Thus scripture reveals the all-encompassing nature of Agni -- and behind it, the one Lord.
