वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् उक्ताः प्रयातास् ते पाण्डवा जनमेजय ॥
राज्ञा दक्षिणपाञ्चालान् द्रुपदेनाभिरक्षितान् ॥
ततस् ते तं महात्मानं शुद्धात्मानम् अकल्मषम् ॥
ददृशुः पाण्डवा राजन् पथि द्वैपायनं तदा ॥
तस्मै यथावत् सत्कारं कृत्वा तेन च सान्त्विताः ॥
कथान्ते चाभ्यनुज्ञाताः प्रययुर् द्रुपदक्षयम् ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
evam uktāḥ prayātās te pāṇḍavā janamejaya ||
rājñā dakṣiṇapāñcālān drupadenābhirakṣitān ||
tatas te taṃ mahātmānaṃ śuddhātmānam akalmaṣam ||
dadṛśuḥ pāṇḍavā rājan pathi dvaipāyanaṃ tadā ||
tasmai yathāvat satkāraṃ kṛtvā tena ca sāntvitāḥ ||
kathānte cābhyanujñātāḥ prayayur drupadakṣayam ||
Vaishampayana said: "Thus sent off, those Pandavas set out, O Janamejaya, for the land of the southern Panchalas, guarded by Drupada. On the way they saw that great-souled, pure, sinless Dvaipayana; having paid him due honor and comforted by him, at the end of the conversation, with his leave, they went to Drupada's abode."

Here, on the threshold of great events, the travelers are met by a teacher. It is telling that before the decisive turn the Pandavas again see Vyasa: the guru appears at the hour of change, blessing and encouraging. Great undertakings are fittingly preceded by an encounter with a saint. Thus the scripture shows that even on the road destiny leads them through the sage's blessing; and comforted by Vyasa, the Pandavas go on to Drupada.
