इदं धनुर् लक्ष्यम् इमे च बाणाः; शृण्वन्तु मे पार्थिवाः सर्व एव ॥
यन्त्रच्छिद्रेणाभ्यतिक्रम्य लक्ष्यं; समर्पयध्वं खगमैर् दशार्धैः ॥

Here the trial is proclaimed, open to all yet within the power of few. It is significant that the condition is announced openly: anyone is free to try, but only the most skillful will succeed. The path to the highest prize stands open to all, yet only the prepared attain it: the call goes out to everyone, but the fruit belongs to the worthy. The text thus shows the fairness of the contest; and in this challenge sounds an echo of the law by which the highest is gained not by mere claim, but by actual skill.
