"[The arena was] furnished with tall mansions white as the peaks of Kailasa, scraping the vault of the sky, wreathed with golden nets, adorned with jeweled floors, with easy stairways, great seats, draped with fine fabrics perfumed with the finest aguru, white as swans, fragrant for a yojana around, with a hundred spacious doors, adorned with couches and seats, their parts overlaid with many metals, like the peaks of the Himavat."

Here the splendor of the mansions is likened to snowy peaks. It is telling that the comparison is with Kailasa and the Himavat: man-made magnificence strives to rival the majesty of mountains — man imitates nature itself in its brilliance. Yet the greatest wealth of the earth is only a likeness, a reflection of true greatness. Thus the scripture shows the summit of worldly splendor; but the discerning one remembers that all this is a setting, not the substance; the substance lies in what is about to occur amid this brilliance.
