Here, after days of preparation, the bride herself finally appears. It is telling that Draupadi comes forth "bathed, adorned": the maiden approaches the sacred choosing of a husband in purity and beauty. It is fitting to prepare for the most important step of life through purification and reverence. Thus the scripture shows the solemn appearance of the heroine; and the many-day assembly was but a prelude to this moment — the coming forth of the one for whose sake it was all arranged.
