कच्चिद् अष्टादशान्येषु स्वपक्षे दश पञ्च च ॥
त्रिभिस् त्रिभिर् अविज्ञातैर् वेत्सि तीर्थानि चारकैः ॥
कच्चिद् द्विषाम् अविदितः प्रतियत्तश् च सर्वदा ॥
नित्ययुक्तो रिपून् सर्वान् वीक्षसे रिपुसूदन ॥
kaccid aṣṭādaśānyeṣu svapakṣe daśa pañca ca ||
tribhis tribhir avijñātair vetsi tīrthāni cārakaiḥ ||
kaccid dviṣām aviditaḥ pratiyattaś ca sarvadā ||
nityayukto ripūn sarvān vīkṣase ripusūdana ||
"I hope you know the eighteen [official posts] of the enemy and the fifteen in your own [camp] through three spies each, unknown to one another — knowing all their vulnerable points? I hope that, unknown to your enemies and ever on guard, tirelessly watchful, you survey all your foes, O destroyer of enemies?"

Here rule demands unsleeping knowledge of both one's own people and others'.
