कच्चिद् बलेनानुगताः समानि विषमाणि च ॥
पुराणचौराः साध्यक्षाश् चरन्ति विषये तव ॥
कच्चित् स्त्रियः सान्त्वयसि कच्चित् ताश् च सुरक्षिताः ॥
कच्चिन् न श्रद्दधास्य् आसां कच्चिद् गुह्यं न भाषसे ॥
कच्चिच् चारान् निशि श्रुत्वा तत् कार्यम् अनुचिन्त्य च ॥
प्रियाण्य् अनुभवञ् शेषे विदित्वाभ्यन्तरं जनम् ॥

kaccit striyaḥ sāntvayasi kaccit tāś ca surakṣitāḥ ||
kaccin na śraddadhāsy āsāṃ kaccid guhyaṃ na bhāṣase ||
kaccic cārān niśi śrutvā tat kāryam anucintya ca ||
priyāṇy anubhavañ śeṣe viditvābhyantaraṃ janam ||

कच्चित् बलेन अनुगताः समानि विषमाणि चkaccit balena anugatāḥ samāni viṣamāṇi caI hope that, with an escort, over level [ground] and uneven,
पुराण-चौराः स-अध्यक्षाः चरन्ति विषये तवpurāṇa-caurāḥ sa-adhyakṣāḥ caranti viṣaye tavaformer robbers, under the supervision [of overseers], patrol your domains;
कच्चित् स्त्रियः सान्त्वयसि कच्चित् ताः च सु-रक्षिताःkaccit striyaḥ sāntvayasi kaccit tāḥ ca su-rakṣitāḥI hope you comfort the women, and they are well guarded;
कच्चित् न श्रद्दधासि आसाम् कच्चित् गुह्यम् न भाषसेkaccit na śraddadhāsi āsām kaccit guhyam na bhāṣaseI hope you do not trust them [in counsel] and do not tell them secrets;
कच्चित् चारान् निशि श्रुत्वा तत् कार्यम् अनुचिन्त्य चkaccit cārān niśi śrutvā tat kāryam anucintya caI hope that, having listened to spies at night and pondered the matter at hand,
प्रियाणि अनुभवन् शेषे विदित्वा अभ्यन्तरम् जनम्priyāṇi anubhavan śeṣe viditvā abhyantaram janamenjoying what is pleasant, you [then] rest, having come to know the people around you?

अनुवाद

"I hope that former robbers, [now] under the supervision [of overseers] and with an escort, patrol your domains over level and uneven ground? I hope you comfort the women and they are well guarded, but that you do not trust them [in matters of counsel] and do not tell them secrets? I hope that, having listened at night to the reports of spies and pondered the matter at hand, you then, enjoying what is pleasant, rest, having [first] come to know those closest to you?".
