Here the question turns from the ordering of the kingdom to the fruits of life itself. It is telling that the Vedas, wealth, marriage, and learning may all prove fruitless if they do not yield their due fruit: possession itself is nothing if not turned toward its purpose. Scripture thus prepares to reveal what the fruit of each truly is; and Yudhishthira asks about this.
