Here justice is safeguarded against the passions of the judge. It is significant that the roots of unjust judgment are named—pride, delusion, desire, greed, favoritism: judgment is ruined not by ignorance but by the bias of the heart. Thus the scripture shows impartiality as the soul of justice; what follows concerns the unity of subjects and the overcoming of the enemy.
