कच्चिच् छृणोषि वृद्धानां धर्मार्थसहिता गिरः ॥
नित्यम् अर्थविदां तात तथा धर्मानुदर्शिनाम् ॥
कच्चित् ते कृषितन्त्रेषु गोषु पुष्पफलेषु च ॥
धर्मार्थं च द्विजातिभ्यो दीयते मधुसर्पिषी ॥

अनुवाद
"I hope you always heed the words of elders, joined with dharma and artha -- those who know what is beneficial and perceive dharma, dear one? I hope that, for the sake of tillage, cattle, flowers and fruit, and for the sake of dharma, honey and clarified butter are given to the brahmanas?"

Here the wisdom of heeding elders is joined with care for fertility. It is telling that gifts to the brahmanas are linked to the good of fields and herds: where the sacred is honored, there, according to tradition, the very land is blessed. Scripture thus shows the connection between piety and abundance; what follows concerns craftsmen and the recognition of labor.
