एतद् धि परमं नार्याः कार्यं लोके सनातनम् ॥
प्राणान् अपि परित्यज्य यद् भर्तृहितम् आचरेत् ॥
तच् च तत्र कृतं कर्म तवापीह सुखावहम् ॥
भवत्य् अमुत्र चाक्षय्यं लोके ऽस्मिंश् च यशस्करम् ॥
एष चैव गुरुर् धर्मो यं प्रवक्षाम्य् अहं तव ॥
अर्थश् च तव धर्मश् च भूयान् अत्र प्रदृश्यते ॥

etad dhi paramaṃ nāryāḥ kāryaṃ loke sanātanam ||
prāṇān api parityajya yad bhartṛhitam ācaret ||
tac ca tatra kṛtaṃ karma tavāpīha sukhāvaham ||
bhavaty amutra cākṣayyaṃ loke 'smiṃś ca yaśaskaram ||
eṣa caiva gurur dharmo yaṃ pravakṣāmy ahaṃ tava ||
arthaś ca tava dharmaś ca bhūyān atra pradṛśyate ||

Translation

"For this is the highest, eternal duty of a woman in the world: that, giving up even her very life, she should do good to her husband. And that deed, done there, will bring you happiness here, will become an imperishable good in the other world, and glorious in this one. And this lofty dharma I will declare to you: in it both your benefit and your dharma are seen to be greater."
