कृतेन सज्येन हि कार्मुकेण; विद्धेन लक्ष्येण च संनिसृष्टा ॥
सेयं तथानेन महात्मनेह; कृष्णा जिता पार्थिवसंघमध्ये ॥
नैवंगते सौमकिर् अद्य राजा; संतापम् अर्हत्य् असुखाय कर्तुम् ॥
कामश् च यो ऽसौ द्रुपदस्य राज्ञः; स चापि संपत्स्यति पार्थिवस्य ॥
kṛtena sajyena hi kārmukeṇa; viddhena lakṣyeṇa ca saṃnisṛṣṭā ||
seyaṃ tathānena mahātmaneha; kṛṣṇā jitā pārthivasaṃghamadhye ||
naivaṃgate saumakir adya rājā; saṃtāpam arhaty asukhāya kartum ||
kāmaś ca yo 'sau drupadasya rājñaḥ; sa cāpi saṃpatsyati pārthivasya ||
"For she has indeed been won by the stringing of that bow and the piercing of that mark; thus has this Krishna been won here, amid the assembled kings, by this great-souled man. Such being the case, King Drupada, son of Somaka, ought not now give himself over to sorrow, to his own grief; and the desire that dwells in King Drupada's heart shall likewise be fulfilled."

Here Yudhishthira consoles and subtly reassures. It is significant that he says the desire of Drupada will be fulfilled: he hints that what the father hoped for -- union with a Pandava -- has already come to pass, yet he does not say so outright. Here is wise restraint: truth is revealed gradually, in its proper season. Thus the scripture shows Yudhishthira's caution; and through his consolation the joyful revelation to come already glimmers.
