प्रतिजज्ञे च राज्याय द्रुपदो वदतां वरः ॥

Translation
‘Having heard that speech of Kunti's son, King Drupada rebuked Dhritarashtra, lord of men; and consoled Yudhishthira; and Drupada, best of speakers, pledged his support for the kingdom.’

Here an old friendship becomes a firm alliance. It is significant that Drupada, upon hearing of the intrigues, condemns their instigator and at once pledges help in reclaiming the kingdom: friendship is tested by misfortune and reveals itself in active support. Here it is seen that a righteous ally is indignant at wrongdoing and does not delay in action. Thus the text reveals Drupada's loyalty; and behind the Pandavas now stands a mighty ally on the path to their rightful due.
