एवं संभाषमाणास् ते निन्दन्तश् च पुरोचनम् ॥
विविशुर् हास्तिनपुरं दीना विगतचेतसः ॥
त्रस्ता विगतसंकल्पा दृष्ट्वा पार्थान् महौजसः ॥
मुक्तान् हव्यवहाच् चैनान् संयुक्तान् द्रुपदेन च ॥
धृष्टद्युम्नं च संचिन्त्य तथैव च शिखण्डिनम् ॥
द्रुपदस्यात्मजांश् चान्यान् सर्वयुद्धविशारदान् ॥
evaṃ saṃbhāṣamāṇās te nindantaś ca purocanam ||
viviśur hāstinapuraṃ dīnā vigatacetasaḥ ||
trastā vigatasaṃkalpā dṛṣṭvā pārthān mahaujasaḥ ||
muktān havyavahāc cainān saṃyuktān drupadena ca ||
dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ ca saṃcintya tathaiva ca śikhaṇḍinam ||
drupadasyātmajāṃś cānyān sarvayuddhaviśāradān ||
"Thus conversing and reproaching Purochana, they entered Hastinapura, dejected, downcast in spirit, fearful, having lost their resolve, having seen the mighty Parthas delivered from the fire and united with Drupada, and having thought of Dhrishtadyumna, as well as of Shikhandin and the other sons of Drupada, skilled in every kind of battle."

Here the wicked tremble before truth grown strong. It is telling that those who plotted the Pandavas' destruction are themselves now in fear: evildoers grow timid when their victim rises up and gains allies. Here it shows itself that wrongdoing is cowardly by nature, for it fears retribution. Thus scripture reveals the confusion of the plotters; and the strength that has risen up for the Pandavas casts them into terror.
