अथर्चीकादयो ऽभ्येत्य पितरो ब्राह्मणर्षभम् ।
तं क्षमस्वेति सिषिधुस् ततः स विरराम ह ॥

The ancestors themselves, headed by Richika, appear and with the word "relent" (kshamasva) stop Parashurama, and he subdues his anger. Here a great virtue is displayed -- forgiveness and the restraint of anger (kshama): even the mightiest, having fulfilled his duty, accepts the word of his elders and tames his passion. Anger, even righteous anger, must have a limit; it is crowned by forgiveness. Thus already at the beginning of the narrative sounds a thought vital to all dharma: true strength lies not in unchecked fury but in the capacity to restrain it for the sake of a higher good. Submission to the word of ancestors and saints is a mark of a noble soul.
