[Here is] Duryodhana's refusal [to accept] Krishna, who had come seeking peace for the good of both sides. Having learned of the wicked scheme of Karna, Duryodhana, and the others, Krishna showed the assembled kings his mastery of yoga (the universal form). Then, taking Karna onto his own chariot, he counseled him, but out of pride he refused [the offer]. [Next comes] the marching forth of chariots, horses, warriors, and elephants, and the reckoning of forces from Hastinapura; the sending of Uluka as envoy to the Pandavas with insolent words on the eve of the great battle; the counting of rathas and atirathas, and the tale of Amba. Such is the fifth, the Udyoga-parva, telling of peace and war: one hundred eighty-six chapters and six thousand six hundred ninety-eight verses, reckoned by the all-wise Vyasa.
