अनुवाद

Without resting on this tale, no [worthy] narrative exists on earth — just as there is no sustaining the body without food. By this tale live all the best of poets, as servants who long for advancement live by a noble lord. Issued from the lips of Dvaipayana (Vyasa), immeasurable, holy, purifying, taking away sin and auspicious (bearing shiva) — for one who attends to the Bharata as it is recited, what further need is there of sprinkling with the waters of holy [Lake] Pushkara? [The very hearing of it cleanses more purely than any pilgrimage.] This tale, unsurpassed and filled with great meaning, is set forth here in the survey of the parvans (Parva-samgraha): having heard this [survey] at the outset, people find ease of immersion into the vast [narrative] — as one crosses the wide salt sea by boat.
