अस्य नाशमिदानीं त्वं पावने श्रुणु सादरम् ॥ 33। चित्तानाशाभिधानं हि यदा ते विद्यते पुनः । मैत्र्यादिभिर्गुणैर्युक्तं शान्तिमेति न संशयः । भूयोजन्मविनिर्मुक्तं जीवन्मुक्तस्य तन्मनः

अनुवाद
«Hear now its destruction with reverence, son of the Wind. For when what is called destruction of mind comes to you again, joined with friendliness and the other virtues, it comes to peace — no doubt; and the mind of one liberated while alive is again freed from birth».

Worth flagging a bibliographic detail: in our list there is no verse thirty-three, its number having been printed inside verse thirty-four. We leave it as is, noting it so the reader does not search for what is missing; the same occurred when reading Sarasvatī-rahasyā (4.28). Add the main point in the verse: maitry-ādibhir guṇair yuktam, «joined with friendliness and the other virtues».
That is, the destruction of mind turns out to be not emptiness but a fullness of good qualities. This detail, I think, is the most valuable in the whole second chapter, and it is worth stating. Maitrī and the rest are the four known from Patañjali (1.33): maitrī (friendliness toward the happy), karuṇā (compassion for the unhappy), muditā (joy at the good), upekṣā (unconcern at the bad).
That is, what marks the mind's «destruction» is named not insensibility but friendliness. The Vaishnava side stands on this as on nothing else, and its rule was cited at Jābāla-darśana (5.11): the marks must be visible from without, and foremost among them — dayā, compassion, and gentleness toward people. Add what follows from this for testing, for here it is simple.
If the destruction of mind gives friendliness, then a person made dry and haughty by his exercises has destroyed nothing; and it was said at Varāha (3.23) that an austerity leaving self-regard behind is called fruitless.
