यस्मिञ् जाते महाबाहुः कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः ॥
अयुतं गा द्विजातिभ्यः प्रादान् निष्कांश् च तावतः ॥
दयितो वासुदेवस्य बाल्यात् प्रभृति चाभवत् ॥
पितॄणां चैव सर्वेषां प्रजानाम् इव चन्द्रमाः ॥
जन्मप्रभृति कृष्णश् च चक्रे तस्य क्रियाः शुभाः ॥
स चापि ववृधे बालः शुक्लपक्षे यथा शशी ॥
yasmiñ jāte mahābāhuḥ kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
ayutaṃ gā dvijātibhyaḥ prādān niṣkāṃś ca tāvataḥ ||
dayito vāsudevasya bālyāt prabhṛti cābhavat ||
pitṝṇāṃ caiva sarveṣāṃ prajānām iva candramāḥ ||
janmaprabhṛti kṛṣṇaś ca cakre tasya kriyāḥ śubhāḥ ||
sa cāpi vavṛdhe bālaḥ śuklapakṣe yathā śaśī ||
When he was born, Yudhishthira gave ten thousand cows to the brahmins, and as many gold nishkas besides; and he was dear to Vasudeva from childhood, and to all the elders, as the moon is dear to all creatures; and Krishna, from his birth, performed his auspicious rites; and that child grew, as the moon grows in its bright fortnight.

Here the hero's birth is consecrated by the Lord's generosity and love. It is telling that Krishna himself performs the rites for Abhimanyu: a child watched over by the Lord's own care is blessed from the cradle. Here it is seen how blessed is one for whom the Lord himself provides. Thus the scripture shows Krishna's love for his nephew, and the boy grows like the waxing moon, beloved by all.
