This verse is longer than the rest — three half-lines instead of two — and it gathers books read last and in a row. Bhasma-jābāla (89), Rudrākṣa-jābāla (90), Gaṇapati (91), Darśana (92) — four books standing one after another in our count; and here they stand in a single line. This coincidence is not accidental: our order is this list's own order, and we followed it.
Worth noting too Pāśupata, for we read it and it is worth recalling. It is a Shaiva book on pati-paśu-pāśa, spoken of at length at Jābāli (5–7); and there it was said that the name paśupati was, in the Veda, an agricultural word meaning stewardship, not lordship alone. Add Avadhūta, for it is, I think, one of the most alive in the collection.
Avadhūta means «one who has shaken off»; and the book describes one outside every rule — without a house, without a mark, without an ordinance. It was noted at Dattātreya (1.14) that appearance is not rank: whoever behaves oddly so as to be taken for an avadhūta seeks the very thing an avadhūta has fled. Add Sāvitrī: it is on the gāyatrī and on what its feet mean, and it is among the few in the collection where the subject is a verse, not a concept.
