Worth noting the word dṛśi-svarūpa, «the very being of seeing». Dṛśi is «sight, that which sees»; and the highest is named not the seen, but the seer. This detail is constant in these books and is, I think, essential: however many qualities are taken away, the one who looks remains.
Add what the Vaishnava side draws from this, cited at Bahvṛcā (9). There the verse of the Ṛgveda ended with the image of «an eye spread across the sky», and it was noted that it must be read as the meeting of a gaze, not as the surveying of an object. Here the same: if the highest is sight, one cannot approach it as a thing; one can only catch its eye.
Add the word alepaka, «unsmearing», literally «not adhering», from lip, «to smear». This root was examined at Varāha (4.25), where Gītā 18.17 said buddhir yasya na lipyate, «whose reason is not smeared». And add: the comparison with the sky, gaganopama, is the very one spoken of at Varāha (3.3): clouds do not wet the sky.
Let the main point be repeated from there: the clouds truly exist, and they truly pour down rain; the comparison asserts not the world's unreality, but the non-attachment of the one behind it.
