Here dharma takes the shape of wise statecraft. It is significant that Drona proposes the way of conciliation itself — embassy, gifts, alliance: a righteous cause is achieved by peaceful means, not by force. The lesson here is that prudence and dharma go together, and reconciliation is more fruitful than strife. Thus scripture shows the art of peaceable diplomacy; and Drona points the way to accord with Drupada.
