त इमे प्रसवस्यार्थे तव लोकाः समावृताः ॥
प्रजायस्व ततो लोकान् उपभोक्तासि शाश्वतान् ॥
पुन्नाम्नो नरकात् पुत्रस् त्रातीति पितरं मुने ॥
तस्माद् अपत्यसंताने यतस्व द्विजसत्तम ॥

Translation
"These worlds of yours are closed for the sake of progeny; beget offspring, then you will enjoy the eternal worlds; 'from the hell named "put", a son saves the father,' O sage; therefore strive for the continuation of offspring, O best of the twice-born."

Here the very name "putra" is explained -- the one who saves from the hell called "put". It is telling how it is expounded: the son [putra] delivers the father from the hell of "put": the continuation of the line is held to be a path to the good of both the ancestors and oneself. So it is disclosed that care for offspring is not a merely worldly matter, but a spiritual one as well. So the scripture reveals the meaning of the son's name; and Mandapala will now turn toward begetting children.
