Ṣaṭ-sandarbha
Jīva Gosvāmī's six books are the whole theology of the Vṛndāvana teachers, carried through to the end by one man. Gopāla Bhaṭṭa began the work; Jīva says of himself only that he rearranged what had been written — and wrote it again. All six move the same way: a verse of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavata is taken, glossed word by word, the whole of scripture drawn in around it, and a conclusion reached. Tattva settles how truth is known at all, and why the deciding word belongs to the Bhāgavata; Bhagavat, that God is a person and not the impersonal; Paramātmā, God within everything; Kṛṣṇa, which of God's appearances is the source; Bhakti, how he is reached; Prīti, that love is the final end, above liberation. The text is prose divided into numbered anucchedas; the reading unit is the anuccheda, numbered by sandarbha and number. Only the mūla is given here: Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa's ṭippaṇī, the Sarva-saṁvādinī and the editions' apparatus are not reproduced.
