तत्राग्निकार्यं कृतवान् कुन्तीपुत्रो धनंजयः ॥
अशङ्कमानेन हुतस् तेनातुष्यद् धुताशनः ॥
अग्निकार्यं स कृत्वा तु नागराजसुतां तदा ॥
प्रहसन्न् इव कौन्तेय इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥

aśaṅkamānena hutas tenātuṣyad dhutāśanaḥ ||
agnikāryaṃ sa kṛtvā tu nāgarājasutāṃ tadā ||
prahasann iva kaunteya idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||

Translation
"There the son of Kunti, Dhananjaya, performed the fire rite; the god Fire-eater rejoiced at the offerings he poured into it without hesitation; and having completed the fire rite, the son of Kunti, smiling, spoke this word to the daughter of the king of the nagas:"

Here Agni rejoices at the offering of the unshaken ascetic. It is telling that Arjuna pours the oblation "without hesitation," and the fire is pleased: a rite performed with calm faith is pleasing to the gods. Composure in the fulfillment of duty is the mark of a steadfast spirit. Thus the scripture reveals Agni's favor; and having completed the rite, Arjuna turns to the naga maiden with a smile.
