स हि सर्वस्य लोकस्य हितम् आत्मन एव च ॥
चिकीर्षुः सुमहातेजा रेमे भरतसत्तमः ॥
तथा तु मुदिताः सर्वे पाण्डवा विगतज्वराः ॥
अवसन् पृथिवीपालांस् त्रासयन्तः स्वतेजसा ॥

Here the king seeks the good of all — and therein lies his greatness. It is telling that Yudhishthira desires the good of "the whole world," not himself alone: a righteous man rules for his subjects, not for himself. Care for the common good is the highest royal dharma. Thus scripture reveals the benevolence of Yudhishthira; and the Pandavas live in peace, fearsome only to the unrighteous.
