ते ऽथ द्वारम् अनासाद्य पुरस्य गिरिम् उच्छ्रितम् ॥
बार्हद्रथैः पूज्यमानं तथा नगरवासिभिः ॥
यत्र माषादम् ऋषभम् आससाद बृहद्रथः ॥
तं हत्वा माषनालाश् च तिस्रो भेरीर् अकारयत् ॥
आनह्य चर्मणा तेन स्थापयाम् आस स्वे पुरे ॥
यत्र ताः प्राणदन् भेर्यो दिव्यपुष्पावचूर्णिताः ॥
te 'tha dvāram anāsādya purasya girim ucchritam ||
bārhadrathaiḥ pūjyamānaṃ tathā nagaravāsibhiḥ ||
yatra māṣādam ṛṣabham āsasāda bṛhadrathaḥ ||
taṃ hatvā māṣanālāś ca tisro bherīr akārayat ||
ānahya carmaṇā tena sthāpayām āsa sve pure ||
yatra tāḥ prāṇadan bheryo divyapuṣpāvacūrṇitāḥ ||
"They, without approaching the gate, [made] for the city's lofty mountain, honored by the Barhadrathas and by the citizens — the very [mountain] where Brihadratha once overcame the man-eating bull Rishabha; having slain him, he had three kettledrums made [from his hide] and, stretching them with that hide, set them up in his own city, where those drums, strewn with divine flowers, resounded."

Here the heroes are drawn not to the gate but to the sacred peak — the emblem of the dynasty's pride. It is telling that they aim at the very thing the enemy prides himself on: what must first be broken is the prop of arrogance. Thus the text shows that the overthrow of evil begins with a blow to its haughtiness; and further they break the peak.
