शैलस्तम्भनिभास् तेषां चन्दनागुरुभूषिताः ॥
अशोभन्त महाराज बाहवो बाहुशालिनाम् ॥
तान् दृष्ट्वा द्विरदप्रख्याञ् शालस्कन्धान् इवोद्गतान् ॥
व्यूढोरस्कान् मागधानां विस्मयः समजायत ॥
ते त्व् अतीत्य जनाकीर्णास् तिस्रः कक्ष्या नरर्षभाः ॥
अहंकारेण राजानम् उपतस्थुर् महाबलाः ॥

śailastambhanibhās teṣāṃ candanāgurubhūṣitāḥ ||
aśobhanta mahārāja bāhavo bāhuśālinām ||
tān dṛṣṭvā dviradaprakhyāñ śālaskandhān ivodgatān ||
vyūḍhoraskān māgadhānāṃ vismayaḥ samajāyata ||
te tv atītya janākīrṇās tisraḥ kakṣyā nararṣabhāḥ ||
ahaṃkāreṇa rājānam upatasthur mahābalāḥ ||

Translation

"Like mountain pillars, anointed with sandal and aguru, the arms of those mighty-armed men shone, O great king; and at the sight of them, resembling elephants, tall as sala tree-trunks, broad-chested, astonishment arose among the Magadhas. They, having passed through the three crowded courtyards, those bulls among men, mighty ones, approached the king with fitting self-possession."
