ततः समुत्थाय स राजपुत्रः; श्रुत्वा भ्रातुः कोपविरक्तदृष्टिः ॥

Then, rising and hearing [the word] of his brother, that prince, his eyes inflamed with anger, entering the chamber of the great chariot-warriors [the Pandavas], spoke thus to Draupadi, the princess: 'Come, come, Panchali, you are won, O Krishna; look upon Duryodhana, casting off shame; serve the Kurus now, O wide-eyed, lotus-eyed one; you have been won by dharma — go into the assembly.' Duhshasana dares to call the outrage "dharma": "you have been won by dharma." It is telling — this blasphemy — to dress lawlessness in the name of law, so that it might appear as right. The verse teaches that there is no lie more brazen than evil calling itself dharma: the violator names his violence justice. And Draupadi's flight to the women is a last attempt to shield her dignity; but even that will be trampled. Whoever cloaks a crime in the word "dharma" sins doubly — in deed, and in blasphemy against the law itself. True dharma does not enslave the innocent; and every "by dharma" invoked to justify an outrage is the seal not of truth, but of the deepest lie.
