लब्धो द्रोणविनाशाय समिद्धाद् धव्यवाहनात् ॥
स धनुर् जैत्रम् आदाय घोरं जलदनिस्वनम् ॥
दृढज्यम् अजरं दिव्यं शरांश् चाशीविषोपमान् ॥

Lost, utterly troubled, and glancing at Dhrishtadyumna, [Drona] could no longer fight as before, O subduer of foes, O king. Seeing him utterly troubled, struck down by grief, the son of the king of the Panchalas, Dhrishtadyumna, rushed forward — he whom Drupada, through a great sacrificial rite, had obtained from the kindled sacrificial fire for Drona's destruction. The instant Drona, broken by grief, lowers his weapon, Dhrishtadyumna rushes upon him — born of fire for precisely this destruction. It is telling that fate overtakes the warrior at the moment of his inward collapse. The verse teaches that despair disarms more surely than any enemy: while the spirit lives, even a warrior is unconquerable; but one broken by grief is overcome even by one who before was no match for him — for it is not the body that falls first, but the will to live.
