राजीव-लोचनrājīva-locanaO lotus-eyed one [Janamejaya],
इदम् ऊचुः वचः कालेidam ūcuḥ vacaḥ kālethis word they spoke, in due time,
धर्म-आत्मानम् युधिष्ठिरम्dharma-ātmānam yudhiṣṭhiramto the righteous-souled Yudhishthira:
अर्हः त्वम् असि धर्म-ज्ञarhaḥ tvam asi dharma-jña"worthy are you, O knower of dharma,
राजसूयम् महा-क्रतुम्rājasūyam mahā-kratumof the Rajasuya, the great sacrifice";
अथ एवम् उक्ते नृपतौatha evam ukte nṛpatauthen, when this was said to the king
ऋत्विग्भिः ऋषिभिः तथाṛtvigbhiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ tathāby the priests and the sages,

Here to the voice of friends is joined the voice of priests and sages. It is telling that assent comes from every side — from kin, counselors, and brahmins alike: the unanimity of the righteous testifies to the goodness of the design. Thus the scripture shows concord as a good omen; and yet the king reflects once more.
