कच्चित् न सर्वे कर्म-अन्ताः परोक्षाः ते विशङ्किताःkaccit na sarve karma-antāḥ parokṣāḥ te viśaṅkitāḥI hope not all affairs are concealed [and thereby] doubtful,
सर्वे वा पुनः उत्सृष्टाः संसृष्टम् हि अत्र कारणम्sarve vā punaḥ utsṛṣṭāḥ saṃsṛṣṭam hi atra kāraṇamnor, conversely, are all made public — here the cause lies in [the measure of] their combination [of the secret and the open];
कच्चित् राजन् कृतानि एव कृत-प्रायाणि वा पुनःkaccit rājan kṛtāni eva kṛta-prāyāṇi vā punaḥI hope, O king, that deeds done, or nearly done,
विदुः ते वीर कर्माणि न अनवाप्तानि कानि चित्viduḥ te vīra karmāṇi na anavāptāni kāni citare known to you, O hero, and none is left unfinished;
कच्चित् कारणिकाः सर्वे सर्व-शास्त्रेषु कोविदाःkaccit kāraṇikāḥ sarve sarva-śāstreṣu kovidāḥI hope that all the teachers, skilled in all the sciences,
कारयन्ति कुमारान् च योध-मुख्यान् च सर्वशःkārayanti kumārān ca yodha-mukhyān ca sarvaśaḥinstruct the princes and chief warriors in every way?

Here wisdom lies in the measure between secrecy and openness, and in seeing affairs through to completion. It is significant that both excessive secrecy and excessive publicity are condemned alike: the wise man discerns what should be hidden and what revealed. Thus the scripture shows proportion and completion in affairs; and next comes the worth of the learned man and of fortresses.
