स मांसरुधिरौघैश् च मेदौघैश् च समीरितः ॥
उपर्य् आकाशगो वह्निर् विधूमः समदृश्यत ॥
दीप्ताक्षो दीप्तजिह्वश् च दीप्तव्यात्तमहाननः ॥
दीप्तोर्ध्वकेशः पिङ्गाक्षः पिबन् प्राणभृतां वसाम् ॥
तां स कृष्णार्जुनकृतां सुधां प्राप्य हुताशनः ॥
बभूव मुदितस् तृप्तः परां निर्वृतिम् आगतः ॥
sa māṃsarudhiraughaiś ca medaughaiś ca samīritaḥ ||
upary ākāśago vahnir vidhūmaḥ samadṛśyata ||
dīptākṣo dīptajihvaś ca dīptavyāttamahānanaḥ ||
dīptordhvakeśaḥ piṅgākṣaḥ piban prāṇabhṛtāṃ vasām ||
tāṃ sa kṛṣṇārjunakṛtāṃ sudhāṃ prāpya hutāśanaḥ ||
babhūva muditas tṛptaḥ parāṃ nirvṛtim āgataḥ ||
He, the fire, saturated with streams of flesh, blood, and fat, coursing through the sky above, appeared smokeless; with blazing eyes, tongue, and gaping enormous mouth, with bristling blazing hair, tawny-eyed, drinking the fat of the living; having obtained that ambrosia prepared by Krishna and Arjuna, the devourer of offerings became joyful, satisfied, and attained the highest contentment.

Here Agni attains what he desired -- satisfaction and healing. It is significant that the purpose of this terrible deed was the restoration of the failing Agni: behind the horror of destruction stood a predetermined outcome. Thus it is revealed that even this dreadful event had an appointed purpose in the design of the gods, though the price was grievous. So scripture shows Agni's satisfaction fulfilled; and his petition, for whose sake all this took place, is granted.
