Śuka returns whence he came.
The circle has closed: from Meru he came down (2.20), and to Meru he went up. Outwardly nothing has changed — the same place, the same retreat, the same man.
What changed is the word standing by the retreat. Then he sat there aviśrānta-manāḥ, with an unquieted mind (2.12). Now he goes for the sake of samādhi akhaṇḍita — “indissoluble concentration”.
Akhaṇḍita means “uncracked, whole”. Before, a fissure hindered — not in the knowledge, but in the footing.
Worth noting too: the whole road, the three weeks at the gate and the whole talk with the king brought the man exactly to where he had been. So it goes: what is needed proves to be not in another place but in another state.
