सर्वसंकल्परहिता सर्वसंज्ञाविवर्जिता सैषा चिदविनाशात्मा स्वात्मेत्यादिकृताभिधा

Translation
“Devoid of all designs and stripped of all names, this imperishable consciousness has received the titles ‘one's own Ātman’ and the rest.”

The verse recalls once more what the book said in 4.44 and 4.56: the names are given by us.
Note the expression kṛta-abhidhā — “a made title”. The word kṛta means “made, manufactured”. The titles are manufactured.
This applies even to our dearest word — sva-ātmā, “one's own Ātman”.
And it is said: consciousness is sarva-saṃjñā-vivarjitā — “stripped of all names”.
The Vaiṣṇava proviso here is the same as before. What is cancelled is our designations taken from properties; the name He gave Himself the book nowhere calls contrived — the name of Nārāyaṇa stands in its first adhyāya without any reservation.
Avināśa-ātmā — “imperishable by nature”. One more positive attribute amid the negations.
