तामेतां सर्वभावेषु सत्स्वसत्सु च सर्वदा संत्यज्य परमोदारं पदमेति महामनाः

tāmetāṃ sarvabhāveṣu satsvasatsu ca sarvadā saṃtyajya paramodāraṃ padameti mahāmanāḥ

The proviso deserves attention: satsu asatsu ca — “in the existent and the non-existent”.
That is, one must leave the desire both for what is and for what is not.
The first is plain. The second concerns daydreams: what is not and perhaps never will be.
Note sarvadā — “always”. Not at the hour of prayer nor on fast days.
Parama-udāra — “supremely bountiful”, literally “most generously noble”. The word udāra means “generous, noble, abundant”.
The state is called bountiful — against all expectation. Having left every petition, one comes to the bountiful.
So it must be: the petitioner is poor by definition; he who has stopped petitioning finds himself where there is plenty of everything.
