पौरुषेण प्रयत्नेन यस्मिन्नैव पदे मनः योज्यते तत्पदं प्राप्य निर्विकल्पो भवानघ

pauruṣeṇa prayatnena yasminnaiva pade manaḥ yojyate tatpadaṃ prāpya nirvikalpo bhavānagha

The verse repeats the rule of 4.42: what you gaze into, that you become.
Here it is given as an order, and with an addition: pauruṣeṇa prayatnena — “by manliness and effort”.
That is, the applying of the mind does not happen of itself. The mind goes where it is drawn; to apply it to something else takes effort, and the book does not pretend this is easy.
The conclusion: nirvikalpo bhava — “become free of distinctions”.
Nirvikalpa — without vikalpa, without that dissecting work spoken of since 2.34.
Note the address anagha — “sinless”. The teacher so calls the pupil at whom he has just flung “man-worm” (4.88).
This is no inconsistency. The abuse was at the delay; the address is to the essence. So one speaks with him whom one is leading.
