Oṁ. He who is Śrī-Rāmacandra — He is the Lord, and He is he who is death. Earth, mid-air, heaven! To him be bow upon bow.

The fifteenth mantra is the shortest and the heaviest: “He is death.”
Not the god of death, not the judge, not the ender: mṛtyu, death itself.
The language of doxology here reaches its extreme. Forty-seven mantras enumerate what He is to whom they bow — and in the middle of the list stands this.
Let us grasp what is said here, and not soften it. Death is not declared illusory, not declared another's work, and not carried outside what is God's. It is named He.
The Bṛhadāraṇyaka begins with the same: “death covered all this”, and death there is the first thing that was.
But the sense of such an identification is not dark — the reverse. While death is something other than God, a man stands between two powers and does not know whose will prevail. If death is He, the dying man does not pass from His hands into strangers'.
And the next mantra, the sixteenth, will say that for whose sake this fifteenth is spoken.
